The resurgence of interest in analog photography post-pandemic has sparked the creation of the Savannah Center for Photography, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering appreciation for photography and providing resources and education. This new venture, led by Josh Yates, a photographer with a budding national career, aims to bring back the community darkroom and offer workshops and gallery exhibitions. Yates' passion for photography was ignited during a workshop in Yosemite with Alan Ross, and he envisions the center as a resource for photographers in Savannah. The center's inaugural show, featuring works by board members and friends, donates all proceeds to the nonprofit. Yates' own photography career has been impressive, with his work exhibited in various group shows and awarded in festivals. His chosen subject matter is abandoned spaces, captured in stark, dystopian black and white. The Savannah Center for Photography is a welcome addition to the city's art scene, offering a community darkroom, gallery, and workshop space, with plans for a larger digital lab and more scanners and printers. The center's grand opening and inaugural show, SCP Presents, will be held on June 26, offering a chance to explore the facility and meet the talented individuals behind it.
